Sherbet knew very well the position he was in. It's eaten at him since February. Slowly crawled around underneath his skin, pulled him apart, until he accepted his fate. His frenzied thoughts, his pain, the war, and even his love for his family put him in a position where he stood here, but not really.

A leg to live for a little bit longer.

"Not really a fair trade, damn bloke..." The male hysterically giggled, a scowl decorating his face as he hobbled from the Jungle Temple, unadvised. His thoughts melting and swirling as he slowly made his way to the nearby beach. His body scraped from falling from being unbalanced, from not watching where his three paws — fucking three, not four — were going. Plopping himself down, the Captain took in a deep breath, and promptly fell on his back. His two front paws — the correct number — tucked against his chest as his bleary eyes took in the stars.

He traced for Orion's Belt, the words from so, so long ago mouthed silently as he cried into the night, unable to know when he would be gone.

Sherbet knew he was living on borrowed time.

Sherbet knew he was going to die before he grew old with his husband, his kids.

And it's all his fault.
