    DOES THE BLANK STARE-
SCARE YOU MORE THAN THE FROWN?
[div style="background-color:#BG COLOR;width:90%; overflow: stretch;text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt;color: #E0EEEE;"] Back when Argus was little there was a simple fable. Passed around clans, sweeping the world full of fear in death- fear of leaving behind each other. A Fable of power and reincarnation- of living after death. Mortal animal's only just tapping into powers that marked an evolution, were instinct slowly fell away to logic and savages became more than just bloodthirsty. The fable goes along with a cat- and their ability to gain nine lives. And logic went that- why was it only cat's that could gain nine lives? The felines leaving behind their fables in spirits ruling them- through the other animals and themselves they came together and thought quietly. Until rumors spread of spirit harvesting.

Then there was a desperation put into killing each other. Mortals attempting to tap into something immortal. Eating souls - and belief that if you caught a spirit before it passed on you could live after dying again. You could live again after dying. Most of it- ended in fluke. Only then that people were dying more and more and the survivors popped with power and a craving addiction to battle lust. She wasn't sure then if there was a craving for souls, if survivors learned what it meant to harvest something intangible and take it for their own gain. Either way- the max limit was 9 extra lives, and eventually those lives ended too.

Either way, Argus' own immortality wasn't a cause of a fable come to life but a curse. A rare split chance in the afterlife- something she was cast into due to her own young death. Looking back now at the fable of the story- Argus couldn't help but compare. Maybe there was a lick of truth in the rumor, in soul harvesting. At the very least it made less jobs for the actual shinigami's like her. It was always easier to purify corrupted spirits then it ever will be to harvest them.- Well, at least form a shingami perspective.

Because it was always more enticing when she had a soul between her jaws. Not necessarily with the intention to send to the afterlife so much as to consume. While Mortals could consume spirits and into themselves be corrupted with the power. The effects never really showed until a mortal died beside a mild addiction. But as a spirit herself living within a body the first taste was enough to kick start it. Corruption- Living inside her blood more powerful than should be tolerable. The rush of power and the ever constant hunger. The need only repulsed by her instincts to hunt at night and only night. But that- was another story entirely, wasn't it?

The sun was setting, sinking into the sea and setting the sky on fire with it's colors. Argus could feel a deeper animal part of herself stirr slightly. Her red eyes- dull in comparison within the day sank into a deeper red. It was like waking up in a way, the differences between her two half like - pun intended- Night and day. Sitting along the beach she angled her head back and watched the clouds roll lazily past. Calm, but hungry- always hungry.
