// little psa: this includes a lot of firefly's own thoughts on her own disability.  i would like to insist that people with paralyzed limbs are not useless or less-than, nor are they not productive members of society because of their disabilities.  firefly's transformation also deals with topics of body dysmorphia.  she is a komodo dragon now!

Her legs had been a point of contention in her own mind for some time now.  Since her injury, Firefly had found herself less and less able to keep up with the rest of her group.  Even if she was their leader and they ultimately had to wait on her for a final decision, she felt so behind  She had considered a few alternative options.  Back in her old home, her brother had fashioned her a makeshift wheelchair to make traversing their extended territory easier but that had been left behind in their move.  How hard would it be to make something like that again?

It was an unfortunate circumstance she found herself in.  Usually, she didn't feel so... useless... but the increased activity in Tanglewood made everything so much worse on her already over-active psyche.  How could she lead a people when she couldn't even keep up with them?  How could she set an example if she couldn't be out in the forest hunting or fighting alongside her tanglers?

Maybe it was these twisting, whirling thoughts or maybe it was some higher being that had heard her consistent pining, but Firefly felt something shift.  Her skin rippled, unbidden, as if in response to a chill.  Weird.  It wasn't cold at all.  In fact, it was quite humid.  What in the world was with her today?

It came all at once.  The large jaw that overtook her leonine muzzle, the talons that replaced her paws, and the powerful tail the replaced her own.  Scales erupted from her back, covering her bright ginger fur and enveloping her in a leathery hide that felt almost too tight for herself.  She felt her entire weight shift much lower to the ground and though it was almost the same, the change in musculature felt so very, very wrong.  She felt wrong.

At the same time, her tail swished against the fronds.  She could move her tail again!  Suns and stars, what a feeling!  What a feeling, indeed!

Ximen cautiously stalked towards Firefly. She smelled the same, but her body looked—and moved—completely different. When his sister had transformed, it’d been involuntary and accompanied by horrifying screams. Ares, too, struggled to control her power.

Forgive him for thinking this is an awful sign. Tanglers have a horrible track record with shapeshifting.

“Hey, Firefly, you okay?” While he asked, his golden eyes kept drifting from the lizard’s face to her powerful tail. Perhaps the luminary intended to shapeshift to regain mobility? “I’ve never seen you in this body. How’re you feeling?”
