Sherbet wrote off all the signs, he realized in hindsight. He wrote off the dark ominous clouds as a severe thunderstorm approaching. He wrote off the intense humidity as the change in seasons. He wrote off the wildlife being quieter as migration happening for birds and the marine life knowing a storm was coming. He wrote off the massive booms of lightning. He regretted that all now as he stood on the beach, seeing the mist of rain across the ocean approaching so quickly he could hardly think. His mind flashed back to the Glades. His eyes were wide with fear as he gazed out at sea, recognizing the look of the sky before disaster struck. He knew the moment he saw the rain pound across the waves until it finally hit the Captain, his ice cream pelt flattening oddly, the sand kicking up from how hard the rain was hitting the ground. The waves were already swelling so much, it was all he could do to flee towards town, his paws slipping and breaths stuttering.
Reaching the main area of town, the rain couldn't even drown out Sherbet's raw, unfiltered screech, "STORM! GET TO HIGH GROUND, QUICK!" His paws slapped on the heavy mix of sand and dirt, his legs trembling as he fought his instincts to run, his brain screaming at him to get to safety, screaming, 'No, not again!' Those of the Glades who didn't survive the hurricane kept flashing into his head as he sprinted from building to building, calling at the animals with wings to help inform anyone who was outside of where he busted in to warn the group. His claws, some still broken from his division ceremony, were muddy and unsheathed from his stress. His roaring anxiety bites at his heels as the water keeps climbing higher and higher, he knew it was a matter of time, but he needed to make sure everyone was safe.
He refused to lose another person.
The waves kept crashing as the water climbed, and Sherbet could only watch in horror from where he faintly clung to the top of a small building as the parlor, the docks, and even the houses were beginning to submerge. His eyes glazed with horrible memories as a huge wave swept the shell-shocked Captain away from his would-be safety. He numbly noted that maybe he should've learned to swim before he began flailing. Paws desperately churning as he hyperventilated, maw hung open in pure terror as he fought to stay afloat. His thoughts swirling around all those Glades deaths, of how it could happen a second time, of how the Typhoon was being swept away, of how he hoped in his panic that as many of the crewmates got to safety before the waves started crashing upon the town center.
