it had been some time, too long really, since she'd set paw into the swamps. she'd come back to life out in the graveyard however long ago and now she was cursed to live on. she'd taken to traveling some time after she'd re-awoken, and within her travels, she had fallen in love. some time in those travels, her brother's presence disappeared and she was on her own once again, save for the only other companion she had. Briar, her dearly beloved. over the years, months, whatever time span it was, they'd grown closer. close enough that their bond had led to more, her heart had recovered enough to love somebody once again. she was no god, but she was enough for Briar, and that had been all that mattered to her.
deep was the unsteady breath in her lungs now as Mei cast her gaze around the swamps, the scrap of fur held gently in her mouth being her young daughter. setting down her daughter on a patch of dry land, Mei would bend her head to inhale her scent, tricking herself into thinking she could still smell the faintest of Briar's scent. closing her eyes for a moment, she took the chance to ground herself, "Don't wander away, little one. Stay close to Mom.", she spoke softly as she gazed down at the blessing that had come of her union with Briar. tears stung at her eyes then, remembering her in all of her beauty and finding that her heart still screamed at the memories. shaking her head faintly, she took a break to breathe and relax, the hothead's attention on their surroundings and checking for any dangers. pressing a paw to her aching lower jaw, she narrowed her eyes and exhaled heavily, "Come, Meimei. Let's carry on. Keep your paws on the wood, stay under Mom, 'kay?", she requested of her daughter as she got back to her paws and began the trek deeper into Tanglewood's territory, short tail flicking and ears rotating as she continued the journey back home.
