NATASHA

Breathe in for two. The stench of blood mixed with the ten different floral aromas seeped into her mouth. Breathe out for four.
Natasha stared at the grey rock. It sparkled in the sunlight and became dull whenever a cloud passed overhead. The world orbited this rock; colors swam at the edges of her vision, and if she let go of the ground, she would fly up into the sky.
Her ears picked her name out of the chaos around her. “Huh…?” Natasha moved her head towards Brutei, immediately followed by a rush of nausea from her belly up to her throat. Saliva pooled beneath her tongue and ran down her lips.
The macaque stood on all fours and sprinted behind a bush. She’d only managed to cover half the distance she’d wanted before vomit gushed out of her mouth and nose. She gagged, but at least the pungent acid prevented her from smelling the gore of her groupmate.
“Ignore me… please.” Her voice sounded as loud as thunder in her ears, but she was barely speaking above a whisper. Her body shook as her amber eyes searched the ground for a rock, a bit of color, anything to hold her focus least the nausea return.
