She had lost track of time long ago. All she knew is that it had been a while since things hit the fan, when news channels started broadcasting tragedies all over the world, people coming back from the dead and eating on the living. It was the kind of stuff you see in fictions, comic books all detailing the end of the world as some gorey catastrophe where zombies walked the planet. But no one had expected it to come true. It started in big cities, the infection spreading quickly with the large populations, before spreading out into the surrounding areas. It had given her and her brother plenty of time to prepare.

They had stocked up enough food and other supplies to last them a while, then set up inside their cellar, huddled together as the walking corpses outside grumbled and growled. But, of course, it didn't last forever. After a few weeks or so, their supplies began to dwindle. Just when things seemed to be going alright.

They were both reluctant to leave, but with no other choice, they stuffed light-weight bags with everything they would need and set out. She still wasn't sure what they had been hoping to find, but nevertheless, it had been stupid of them. Dying in that cellar would have been better if she was honest.

Now Cosette was here with this group and her brother was long gone, both of them separated a long time ago, before she came across this shelter. For a while she had hoped she could find him one day, but eventually she decided it was just wishful thinking; he was probably dead, or miles away from where she was. But she tried her best not to let it get to her.

She was just grateful to have a place to stay with people to help protect it. She wasn't sure if she could survive on her own. Standing out front of the large building that was at one point a school, she glanced around the fenced in yard, bored and wondering when the hunting patrols would come back.

/tldr; basically a zombie apocalypse au. they're all camping out in a former school building. basically a free for all, so u can make the thread go in any direction u like (walkers get in, raiders, ect)
