DAY ONE - HAPPINESS
He'd forgotten what happiness was. Out in the wastelands known as clan territories, all unnatural instincts that a dog could want had been pushed down into a void. Before joining Tanglewood (heck, even whilst being apart of Tanglewood), his goals had just been to eat and sleep and drink and find a way to keep himself alive. Resting with the marsh dwelling group may've restored some forgotten parts of his conscience, but the one thing that wouldn't be so easy to restore was the quest for joy. It wasn't always like that, no smart creature was born miserable and completely gave up on ways to make themselves smile without experiencing something to make them upset in the first place - Axle just wished that he'd never formed the bonds he did through nurture in the first place.
Domesticated dogs didn't have much choice of whether or not they could be free, but it'd never been a bother to him. He'd been fed, he'd been watered and played with, all the male had to do was act as a guard dog along side the family's other canines. Could he say he was happy then? Most likely. He'd had his girl, the lovely daughter of his owner who preferred the Heeler for his smaller stature in compared to the Dobermans and Rottweilers of the yard - both because of his breed and the fact he was less than a year old. Being with her, playing with all of the squeaky toys and getting to eat scraps of human food thrown to him off of the dinner table, there was no denying the smiles he'd go to sleep with.
A lick of anger from a bitter boy threatening the daughter was all it took to see the rest of his life go down in flames. He'd pinched her, grabbed her arm, made her cry, retaliating against him for hurting her had caused the boy's father to start a house fire. Revenge for refusing to put the bad dog down. The ender of his own bliss, there was no denying if the male had been more selfish then he would've been fine, the girl would've been fine. Playing the hero... there was no happiness to be found in it. Only pain and death, if not his own agony, then an innocent's. Was it ever worth it? Axle didn't know anymore.
