the child was happy to be out of her lonely little nest. she was tired of watching the happy mothers for one day, though she hid it well. yet, once she was out of the nursery, she had no idea where to go. her eyes flicked up to the stars above her and she offered a soft smile. the stars seemed to dance above her in the darkness of the sky. so free. so wonderfully free. it was such nights that she missed cuddling with her mother to look at the night sky.

the word sounded like a base drum in her ears and she blinked in surprise. she thought about it a moment, and then decided to do it. so, she sprung forward, letting out a soft yip as she did so. her paws danced over the warmed earth under them as she raced along with ease. she was free and safe all at once. this place was her home. she had a true home and she would never be alone again.
she only stopped when her lungs burned and she flopped to the earth. she would breathe heavily a moment. not noticing inferno up above. not realizing she was not alone in this moment. once she was able to breathe, she would roll to her back. gazing up at the stars above and finally feeling some sort of peace.
