the forest smelled lovely this time of year. flowers were blooming, food was abundant. it was perfection and the large tom knew it. that was why he was settled in the roots of an old oak. he made his home there and stuck to himself. well, maybe not to himself truly. he was always teaching those that asked it of him.

of course that was what he was doing right then. he had taught a few loners about the life of a kittypet, as he was called. a softer life that did not suit the large feline. they were now leaving, though he was sure one of the she-cats was making eyes. today he was not seeking love in any form.

today he wanted to sunbath in peace. so, he was resting in the sun. just enjoying himself for the time being.

Canary herself was convinced love is a lie. She could not stand relationships, not after her last mate and herself had split up. If they couldn’t make that work, well, then love wasn’t real. Spite was though, and she made sure everything she did would be out of resentment for her former mate. If she succeeded, it was to rub it in his face. If she failed, she would try again until she succeeded. No matter what, Canarysong had to succeed in everything. She had to prove she was better than him.

That was awfully difficult to do for a pregnant molly.

Today, she had tried to gather herbs but with little luck. It was nice outside, but she was starved and tired. So tired, in fact, that she tripped trying to avoid roots just outside of Raspitin’s home. She collapsed to the ground with a thud, forcing the weight onto her side. Though it was her fault, she began to seethe as she stood up. Her eyes were daggers, and her teeth sandpaper.

“You mouse-brain!” she hissed at the tree, swatting at it. In fact, she was completely oblivious to the fact there was somebody in the tree.

the sounds of someone tripping made his massive cranium lift from his paws. he had no idea where the woman was headed, but tripping and then cursing the tree was not a good sign. so, true to form, rasputin rose from his place to stretch a moment. then he left the den without hesitation.

hello? the faint russian accent showing its head in his tone. moving out to see the pregnant molly looking rather annoyed, he paused to scan her over. are you alright? he would have hated seeing her hurt. but, he was a healer, well, of sorts.

the tom slowly took a seat and let that bushy tail curl about him. i am sure that tree regrets what ever it did to you. he mused with a slight tilt of his head.
