IN A CITY THAT WE LOVE

the woman was up early after a strange dream. leaving the camp without a second thought. her steps calculated and careful. not even a blade of grass was touched in her wake. she was starved and so she was off to find herself a meal. not wanting to eat close to camp, as she wanted a moment to herself. that  was why she went to the river.

stopping to offer a prayer to vita. "vita, i thank you for this meal. the life i take gives me life." she spoke softly before begining to graze on leaves above her. taking her time until she became rather parched. so, she stopped to pick her way over to the river.

spreading her legs and lowering her head to drink water from the shore. it was there that she noticed a glint in the water. rather surprised, she would lift her head and take a moment. the red glint in the water finally making her step forward.

until she was pulling two small earrings from the pebbles. ruby ones. surprised, she would turn and head to shore. setting them down. ears folding back as she took them in silently. "a gift from vita.. but what does this bring with it?"

a simple question that brought her fear. yet, she would not turn them down. she would just need someone to put them into her ears.
